Wanted: Conservative Inspiration

Apr 30, 2008 in It's All Right

As I watched Rev. Wright ranting to his congregation, it occurred to me…  People are hungry for inspiration.  To be sure, his brand of inspiration leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth, but clearly, his congregation was inspired.  So the question arose in my mind:

Is there a market for conservative inspiration?

And I answered to myself a resounding, “YES!”

I think this is the essence of all of the “be like Reagan” talk you hear from pundits.  Nobody really wants another Reagan.  Sure, he was a great man and stood for great ideals, but what we really want is to be inspired, like Reagan did.  So, is there a market for conservative inspiration in politics?  Yes, of course.  But is there a market for conservative inspiration in general?

Once could argue that we already have this in the form of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, and thousands of conservative bloggers (yours truely).  But it is not the same as standing in front of a group of people and engaging them directly.  It is different.

What would the new conservative inspirational model look like?

First and foremost, it would not be tied to a political campaign.  To be part of a candidate or campaign would necessarily tarnish any inspiration which may have otherwise been derived.  All you need to do is look at the behavior of any number of so-called conservatives in Congress to see that conservative ideals quickly wane in the face of power - real or perceived.

Once you take politics out of it, one could argue that the need for conservative inspiration is already being met by our think tanks, like the Heritage Foundation.  Except that with the exception of the Washington elite, who really has access to Heritage?  To be sure, they do great work and are a huge asset to our cause.  But really, when was the last time you went to a Heritage Foundation event?

So what are we left with?  A market opportunity.

Picture this…  Some enterprising conservative (aren’t we all by definition?) gets the word out to friends and family that there is to be a meeting for conservative inspiration.  The meeting is to be held at a local community center, private school, or the like.  A simple agenda is sent out the day before via e-mail.  The agenda looks something like this:

8:00 - 8:15: Introduction and Vision
8:15 - 8:30: Topicality - News and Why it Matters to Conservatives
8:30 - 8:45: Effecting Change - How We Can Do It
8:45 - 9:00: Moderated Open Discussion
9:00 - 9:15: Closing Remarks and Pledge

So this little meeting takes place and is an inspiration to those who attend.  The discussion is positive and uplifting.  In short, it is inspirational.  The next meeting is planned for the following month.

The next month arrives and the agenda is the same, only now we have some new members.  All coming to be inspired.  To take action.  To be part of something special - the conservative movement.

This is not a religious event.  More like a tent revival for conservative thought.

Once the process is put in place and polished, these events and groups could be franchised across the country.

What is the goal?  To effect positive change by evangelizing conservative thought.

This all occurred to me during a 20 minute drive.  I heard a clip of Rev. Wright and heard the screams of adoring congregants.  It seemed so clear that conservatives have no major grass roots outlet to share thought and action to effect real change.  As mentioned above, there are plenty of outlets, but none that touches people directly, personally and powerfully, they way Wright does with his (cooky) brand of preaching.

Sure, there may be little conservative groups here and there, but there needs to be something so inspirational that it captures the spirit of the nation.

When you read books like “Real Change” by Newt Gingrich or even books like “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, you are excited and inspired to get something done.  Let’s take that type of excitement and bring it to the masses, one little group of conservatives at a time.

Okay, now…who’s going to set this up?

Arrogence the Wright Way

Apr 25, 2008 in It's All Right

So, everybody’s favorite misunderstood patriot, Rev. Wright is back in the spotlight.  When I first heard that he was going to be doing an interview with Bill Moyers I thought, “What a fool this guy is…doesn’t he know that he is hurting Obama?!”

But then, I started thinking…

Collectively, conservatives are a spineless bunch.  Out here in the blogospere we’re not, but our leaders are publically jellyfish.  Given this, I know just what Obama/Wright are going to do.  Wright will strut into the interview with the leftist Moyers, knowing full well he will be given only softball questions.  Wright will be given full opportunity to wax poetic about how he loves America and how he is just misunderstood; the product of knee-jerk, insensitive, white conservatives.  He will brazenly accuse all those who question him as being, at minimum, uncaring dupes of the Republican party and at worst, racists.

Here’s the fun part - the media and Republicans in office will let him get away with it.

I know this to be true, because one only needs to look into the very recent past to see how this national duping has occurred many times before.  How about the whole “Bush lied” thing?  It doesn’t matter that every intelligence agency from MI5 to Mossad to the CIA agreed with Bush, or that Democrats from Hillary Clinton to Al Gore agreed with him as well?  The Republicans in office and the media all let the “Bush lied” lie to propagate unchallenged.  The media does so because it serves their leftist agenda. The Republicans in office do so because the war is unpopular and they want votes in the next election - in short, they are spinless and self-serving.

So, when Wright goes on with Moyers and is given a friendly forum in which he will undoubtedly go unchallenged, I have no doubt that the media and our elected Republicans will roll over for him.

Since the left knows that all they have to do is make audacious proclamations and do so loudly and repeatedly, they will be given a free pass.  (See global warming for reference.)  Obama is probably behind Wright going out in public again because he knows all of this.  If you are arrogent enough, and the left is, you will be treated with kid gloves.

Let’s just hope that those of us out here can make enough noise to keep the real motivations of Wright exposed (anti-American, racist, conspiracy hound).

I for one, will stay vigilant.

Just Because I Hang Out With Them….

Apr 18, 2008 in It's All Right

Picture this…  There’s a group of guys standing on a corner in the middle of the day.  The guys are wearing bandanas on their heads, they are covered in tatoos, most are heavily muscled, and all have a forboding look about them.

Now, go ahead and make a judgement.  It’s okay, you have permission to judge.  Go ahead.

So what did you come up with?

Drug dealers?  Maybe.  Gang members?  Possibly.  Unemployed?  Perhaps.  A men’s group planning a fundraiser for disabled children?  I doubt it.

This example is instructive for a couple of reasons.  First, is that it is okay to judge.  Making sound judgements about who people are and what their intentions are can well save your life, or at lease help make life easier.

Second, it illustrates the truism that you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.

It is this second point that applies to Barrack Obama.  Over and over again we observe Obama hanging out with the proverbial gang on the corner, yet we are expected to believe him when he says that just because he hangs out with them doesn’t mean he thinks like they do.  Uh, then why is he hanging out with them?

What makes this even more telling, is that the guy deflects and distorts and tries to turn the conversation into something about THEM.  When in fact, it is about HIM.  Let me explain…

On Reverend Wright, for example.  Obama says that while he disagrees with the man’s positions on a variety of topics, he still holds him dear as a mentor and spiritual advisor.  By itself, I might buy this.  Enter William Ayers.  Obama is also friendly with this clown.  Not just friendly, but friendly to the point where Ayers held a fundraising/oraganizational meeting at his home on behalf of Obama and they have made speeches together.

So, now there are two people in Obama’s life who are fervently anti-American, but who Obama hangs out with anyway.  But we are to believe that he shares no opinions with them.

Then we have Michelle Obama, who has never been proud to be an American.  Until her husband started doing well in the primaries, that is.  Huh?  Nuff said.

Watch for Obama to continually try to shift the conversation to whether or not Wright and Ayers are bad people.  He will do everything he can to keep the focus of these open questions off of what HE thinks.

Judgements of character are key to choosing our elected officials.  Obama is showing his true colors by hanging out with the bad crowd.  But don’t worry, he doesn’t really think anything like them.

You know…it just occurred to me…even if he is being truthful and he doesn’t agree with the politics and opinions of Wright and Ayers, doesn’t it show a remarkabel lack of judgement to be so closely associated with these anti-American leftists?
