The Solution for Afghanistan

The headline is stark: Afghan President Hamid Karzai Confirms Peace Talks With Taliban

I’m almost inclined not to write another word, since this headline speaks for itself. But we all know that’s not gonna happen….

The original intent behind going to Afghanistan was to rout out and kill the elements that allowed the 9/11 terrorists to train. We did that in short order. What has happened since? Well, GW Bush decided to push forward beyond removing the Taliban from power. He set out to create a stable government that would not actively support terrorists. In short, good old fashioned nation-building.

Most conservatives stood behind this effort. It worked in Iraq and so it should work in Afghanistan, right? Not so much.

The ToBeRIGHT solution is simple: Get the hell outa there. Watch the entire country via satellite. When we see any evidence of a training camp of any kind, blow it up.  It meets our national security goals just perfectly.

It is clear that the people over there have no interest in joining the twenty-first century. You can’t force them to do it. If The Afghan government wants to make a deal with the evil Taliban, let him. Just let them know, in no uncertain terms, that when we see any glimmer of terror training of any kind, we are going to drop bombs.

  1. I am inclined to come down on your side of this, Harry. It seems the longer we stay in Afghanistan, the more involved we become in their country. Maybe our intentions were honorable and good when we first went into the country, but it is high time we vacated the premises.
