Cantor Hears From Conservatives and It Ain’t Good

Eric CantorThe talking heads make a big deal out of any semblance of a “rift” within party ranks. Especially if it is between tea party types and establishment Republicans. Most of this is just bluster to prop up Democrats. But there is a story that deserves attention, not from the media, but from Republican members of Congress.

The people are fed up – big time. We don’t care what letter is next to a politician’s name. We’re sick and tired of all the politicians.

On February 9, 2011 Eric Cantor updated his FaceBook status with a comment that he met with Obama and had a “robust” discussion about cutting the budget. He got a LOT of replies – 232 of them as of 2/13/11. The replies almost universally said two things: 1) don’t trust Obama as far as you can throw him and 2) We don’t want to be insulted with little budget cuts – we want to go BIG. The only exceptions are a few (single digits) liberals trolling who wrote some ill-informed and insulting comments. The rest were all similar to the large sample below.  Here are some of the responses to Cantor:

Remember, “We will no longer go along, just to get along.” The American voters: Tea Partyists, Libertarians, independents, Conservatives — all gave the GOP another chance based on their listening to the American people: CUT SPENDING. TORT REFORM. REPEAL OBAMACARE. BUILD THE FENCE & STOP ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSINGS. RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION: 10TH AMENDMENT. REFORM THE TAX CODE. CLOSE ANTIQUATED AGENCIES. MICHELLE BACHMAN HAS THE LIST OF SPENDING CUTS. I AM SURE SHE HAS COPIES.

#
ENTITLEMENT REFORM. ENTITLEMENT REFORM. TORT REFORM. TORT REFORM. RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION. RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION. CONGRESS IS REFERRED TO AS SPENDING ADDICTS. THE GOP NEEDS TO SHOW THEY ARE NOT.

#
@Eric…so did he agree? say go shit in your hat? Do you have a next step…How about some facts instead of BS!!

#
?@Eric…don’t get me wrong…I am glad you talked but people have talked to him in the past and he did whatever he wanted anyway…glad u are fighting for us but we are chomping for facts

#
Loved what Megyn Kelly on FOX said when this report came out. She pretty much said “knock off the B.S. and get to work”. We are tired of hearing the rhetoric, Eric, and start doing something about it!

#
NO COMPROMISE, EVER!!!

#
We have spoken on Nov 2nd, you say you heard us, now get to work and get things done pronto. Enough talk! Actions speak louder than words.

#
Dear Mr. Cantor; Please don’t look for el presidente to really change his stripes. He’s just pandering when he says he’s becoming a centrist & defiles Ronald Reagan’s honor & legacy by carrying his book around. You have to remember he will lie, cheat & do whatever is needed to get his way. I would sooner sleep in a bed of rattle snakes & vipers than spend 10 minutes with him.

#
Ann Heape Robust…? Do I take that to mean he smiled his liberal smile but of course does not intend to cut anything except you some BS.

#
Obama is a liar, if you make any deals with him you’re selling your soul to the devil.

#
Well, how’d that work out for you?

#
ENACT THE FAIRTAX (H.R. 25). That will make jobs as companies flock to the US for the LOWEST business taxes in the world. 3 BIRDS WITH ONE STONE!
Reforms the tax system, stimulates the economy, cuts spending as the IRS goes away. AND – It… doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to implement! It is bipartisan! NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
Get ‘er Done!!!

#
Wipe the floor with his ideas and press on with what we want. We don’t want you to work with him, work against him!

Really? He must’ve given you all lessons in how to blow smoke up our rear end, huh?…because 32 billion won’t cut with us…i have an idea…why don’t you leaders get together with the other reps and senator’s and come up with no less than 100 billion instead of kissing up to the man that created this monstrosity! We’re watching, and not liking what we’re hearing or seeing…2012 is juuuuussst ariund the corner! NO COMPROMISING!

hang in there and fight …

Eric, Republicans were elected to represent us. Don’t raise the debt ceiling. We could care less if Republicans work with Obama. RINOS will be voted out in 2012. We are looking for a strong and fiscally conservative leadership that will cut… spending by downsizing the federal government. Anyone ever look at the duplicity between government and state agencies. Taxpayer money goes to the federal government, just to allocate back to the states for transportation, entitlements, education, and etc. spending. Fair tax would eliminate most of the IRS. Just a couple of common sense ideas.See More

Why can’t the House and Senate see that the solution legislation has already been introduced in both houses? H.R. 25 and S. 13 take an afternoon to read, 15 minutes to understand, and will bring YEARS of growth and prosperity. … IF THIS IS NOT TRUE, THEN YOU TELL ME WHY. I have yet to hear an informed, reasoned argument from an elected official as to why this wouldn’t do exactly what I’ve stated. Most politicians have not personally studied this bill, and so they respond with uninformed gibberish. Find out what it’s about! www.fairtax.orgSee More

Mr Cantor: are we going tp hold tough or waver and fold as we have in the past? When will you tell us what was agreed to? Transparency is the operative word here.

It will be nice to hear what ‘robust” means

Whenever I hear the expression “wo…rking together” I find it to be the code word for abandoning our principles for the sake of a vaunted bi-partisansip which is nevre mentioned when we are in the minority. Will you have the moral integrity and, yes, political savvy, to do what you promised and DEFUND. You have the power. Do you have the WILL and the COURAGE?

I voted Republican in 2010 believiong it was smarter than to create a third party would consign the GOP and this new party (perhaps the Tea Party) to a long-term minority. But if you fail to stand tall now, what is the difference?

If you will once again fall short I can assure millions of Americansd will no longer consider voting Republican in 2012 and beyond.See More

…and…what’d he say???

#
Maybe you could start by taking the lead and living up to the GOP promise to cut 100 billion form the annual budget instead of the measly 32 billion that just came out of the budget committee….

#
Lord So! What was his response? Same as his diatribe at the Chamber of Commerce? Come on guys, this nits a Marxist through and through. If you think you got any point in with him I have a bridge to sell you.

#
are you kidding me…don’t talk…DO!!!! We agree with everything you said, but enough talk….You have the pledge now get to it…

#
You need it to be a lot more than $38bn. You promised at least $100bn. We ARE watching you.

#
Mr. Cantor, now we need action!

#
If 32 billion was serious cuts then we are in BIG trouble! Come on Republicans !! do what we voted you in to do!!!

#
He’s not going to listen to you or the American people!!!
Hasn’t he thrown us & the GOP under the bus enough???? NO COMPROMISE!!!!!!!

#
hopefully you are still doing the job of cutting government and shrinking it

#
I sure would like to hear more energy and fire in their voices and less of the tired old platitudes…

#
We don’t want you to compromise with Obama on spending, Mr. Cantor. We want spending CUT. Obama wants it frozen. NO COMPROMISES.

#
Rep. Cantor… I hope you don’t seriously believe that you had any sort of meaningful “robust” conversation with the Marxist Obama. If Obama somehow does the right thing with the economy it will be because he is compelled to do so by a maj…ority in Congress that is much more powerful than the President and gives him NO alternative but to do things which are fundamentally misaligned with his world and economic views…. You must be acting to remove this monstrosity, not be having robust conversations with him and his regime. I hope you are engaging in political speak when you say silly things about having robust conversations with Obama.

What this says to me is that Republicans better watch their step. The conservative movement is using the Republican party as a vehicle to achieve its desired ends. If the Republicans don’t get serious, it’ll be another electoral bloodbath in 2012.

  1. I fear Cantor is an Establishment Republican.

The difference between an Establishment Republican and a Liberal Democrat is not that large. If you go looking for hard evidence, you willl have a difficult time proving that either of them have anything against spending too much of our money.

  2. I’m inclined to agree with you, Tom. Cantor has never impressed me as a real conservative. In the book, Young Guns, which he co-authored with Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, he said all the right things. The problem is that we’re way beyond what these pols say…what they do is the real litmus test.

It’s my opinion that this is the reason Obama is suffering so much in the polls; what he says and what he does are so diametrically opposed, but I digress….

  3. I think that they’re going to find out that we’ll be observing and speaking out for them, just as much we can did against the Dems in the prior years.
