Obama’s Pitiful Cry For $3

Obama FundraisingI had to laugh when I got the email…  Obama begging for money.  Of course, all politicians beg for money, but this one seemed so much more pathetic than usual.

The pitch – if you could call it that – begins with Obama admitting he’s getting beat.  Then he goes on about how it’s all because Romney does nothing but hang around mean rich people.

Then, the really fun part.  After complaining that he’s getting his ass handed to him because all of his donors give small amounts, he asks for $3.

Ineptitude on parade!

I had to re-read it to believe it.  The clown spends an entire email saying how awful it is to get beat because all his donors give only small amounts, and then to solve the problem, he asks for a small amount!

Everyone say it with me…..  “DUMB!”

Here’s a copy of the pathetic groveling for pocket change…

Friend —

I will be the first president in modern history to be outspent in his re-election campaign, if things continue as they have so far.

I’m not just talking about the super PACs and anonymous outside groups — I’m talking about the Romney campaign itself. Those outside groups just add even more to the underlying problem.

The Romney campaign raises more than we do, and the math isn’t hard to understand: Through the primaries, we raised almost three-quarters of our money from donors giving less than $1,000, while Mitt Romney’s campaign raised more than three-quarters of its money from individuals giving $1,000 or more.

And, again, that’s not including the massive outside spending by super PACs and front groups funneling up to an additional billion dollars into ads trashing me, you, and everything we believe in.

We can be outspent and still win — but we can’t be outspent 10 to 1 and still win.

More than 2.2 million Americans have already chipped in for us, and I’m so grateful for it. As we face this week’s fundraising deadline, please donate $3 or more today.

Every donation you make today automatically enters you to join Michelle and me for one of the last grassroots dinners of this campaign — today is your last chance to get your name in.

These dinners represent how we do things differently. My opponent spent this past weekend at a secretive retreat for the biggest donors to both his campaign and the super PACs that support him.

I’ve got other responsibilities I’m attending to.

Donate today to stand for our kind of politics:

[Here he inserted a link to his fundraising website – I won’t help with a link.]

Thank you,

Barack

  1. Yo, you need to think this one through a little more or do a little more research. While I am no fan of Obama, I can definitely admit that he has one of the most brilliant campaign teams in modern history. If you don’t see that, you should do some more research. He is doing things with fundraising (like this) and advertising that are unprecedented and brilliant. The advertising thing you can look up on your own — it’s extremely unnerving (and disingenuous, btw), but almost certainly will be very effective. This $3 request seems stupid at first glance, I admit, but it’s actually really smart. By asking for $3 he’s not making much money but he’s expanding his donor base. Studies have shown that people who have donated even very small amounts to presidential campaigns are much more likely to vote — but more importantly, they are much more likely to donate again. By asking for $3 he’s causing the average person to say, “Well heck that’s nothing, I’ll chip in $3” not realizing that in doing so, they’re giving up contact info (the site asks for a physical mailing address when you donate, and also a phone number) and succumbing to the psychology of the campaign. Now Obama can hit them up anytime he needs a quick infusion of extra cash.

Long post I know, but I’m extremely worried about this perception that Obama is dumb and incompetent so we don’t need to worry about the campaign. He may be dumb and incompetent, but he has hired some truly brilliant (and amoral) campaign staff who could easily guide him to another victory if we don’t work really hard to stop it. Just my two cents.

  2. Hi Jason –

I don’t underestimate him at all. That is probably not clear from this post. My point here is not that he is asking for $3, but that he spends the entire emails talking about how he is losing the fundraising war because of small donations, and then asks for a small donation!

You are spot on… we need to all double our efforts on the road to the election. Heck, that’s why I have this blog! Thanks for reading – hope to see more of you around here…

  3. OBAMA is committed to being reelected and by his unsavory politics and is not beneath being underhanded and lying. Nixon and other power mongers effectively used fear tactics and negative campaigning to the degree and the range he will explore to gain votes. Thete are a large number of Americans who scoff at America and American ideals due to the collapse of the economy and the obvioys role government has in this. The libs are still touting this as an inherited problem and blame / entitlement ideology cares little about anything but making the rich pay and they are owed a living – that is their definition of equality in America. You can see this warped version whenever you hear leftist banterung about the rich not paying enough of their fair share. ( lets not do.the math and consider that 14% of 20 million is just under 3 million dollars and why should anyone wish to pay.the government anything anyway!).

Its not a fair fight and playing according to any standard rules and I sense almost a back alley , ” there’re crooks so why not me” attitu
de. The perception of what is right and fair is very different to many immagrants and the have nots in society, where many times it has nit been throygh hard work and determination that they have survived but through determined efforts and knowing the right people. This is where the have nots seek revenge on the haves and just like a riot there is little regard for building anything in an atmosphere of fear and hate of the haves. Its class warfare and 3 bucks puts more power into obama’s hands. Don’ t scoff at the inherent power this approach has. American values are becoming a pejorative as the economy falls even more and it will be the demagogue who wins. With 1/6 receiving food stamps you will only incite more fear when you speak of cutting aide. What Romney/ Ryan super duo need to do is to gain credibikity in the eyes of the disrnfranchised. This will require being very clever but most of all truthfullness and a greater honesty than ever
